The evolution for Duplex Stainless Steel

A. 1930–1960

In the early days, most of the duplex stainless steels were castings. Because duplex stainless steel improved the problem of hot cracking, it was easier to produce products with complex shapes. People quickly discovered the advantages of its resistance to grain boundary corrosion. However, due to only a few companies produced duplex stainless steel in the early days, it's not easy to find it.

B.1960–2000

Advances in electric arc furnace refining technology have reduced carbon content, and nitrogen addition technology has reduced the precipitation of  carbides, increased mechanical strength, improved hot workability, and simultaneously improved pitting corrosion resistance. 1.4462/2205 has become the most accepted duplex stainless steel. It has twice the yield strength and corrosion resistance of stainless steel (such as 304) and is widely used.
